I was looking forward to my Scentbird subscription. Fragrances are an important characteristic associated with individuals. For me, I become accustomed to a scent associated with different people and no matter how much time passes, if we smell the scent it takes me right back to memories of whoever its associated with.

Launch site and initiate profile quiz.

Section I of quiz:

First up – Where would I rather be? There are beautiful images of different places in front of me. Each one I look at is pleasing to my eye. Which of course translates in my brain as…” well yeah, I’d like to be there”.

Dammit, this is like a thinking quiz? I decide the game plan is to eliminate my 3 bottom choices. Let me break it down so that you can appreciate my struggle.

Sea Shore. Nice, but gotta eliminate you. It makes sense this is to be the first location to go. I always immediately attribute a seashore as if it’s the best place to be. I think it’s because I’ve just been programmed to think that beach life represents healthy, sun-kissed people frolicking and savoring every minute of life. But really, I’m not a frolicker.

Next up Flower Shop – Hey, whatta ya know…I like flowers! They’re pretty, they smell nice, they brighten moods. But here’s the thing…my mind hasn’t ever actually produced the thought, I want to go to a flower shop.

I mean yea… I’d love to be at the flower shop in the image, but that’s because it’s in freakin Tuscany!!!

Orange Grove – The image makes me feel peaceful and cheery. I like oranges, orange juice, the color orange, orange zest, orange blossom fragrance. I even like big orchards. Oh shoot, actually I think those may be called vineyards. Yep, sorry Orange grove – I gotta cut you.

Then there were 3!

A Private Library – and I mean the mother of private libraries.

This was the real deal – dark custom wood bookshelves, mahogany desks and cushiony tufted leather couches. And the windows…the large windows that look out into the massive green rolling fields. And likely where several suitors are attempting to reach me only to fall victim to the moat. Total contender for where I’d like to be!

Ok next up, Bakery – Ummm, I like baked goods, sure I’d like to be at that bakery.

Finally, spice market – whoa what? Spice market…you’re still here? Sorry spice market…you’re out.

Are you feelin my struggle yet? You see, it’s not about where I want to be based on the actual “place”. I was totally being drawn to the image. It could have been a fallopian tube as long as the image was pleasing to my eye.

Two standing. Library vs. Bakery! At this moment I know that my decision will determine if I smell like bourbon or tiramisu.

I end up choosing the library. No, wait. Maybe not. I mean really? a cupcake…no, I just don’t look like a person who smells like butter and sugar. Wait, does this mean I think I look more like someone who smells like bourbon and cigars.

I’m goin with it – I can always retake the quiz and change some answers…right?

Section II of quiz:

Profile question: What do I naturally gravitate too? This time…I decide my answers will not be based on images. I do my best to just read the word and not look at the image.

Choices are: Wood, Leather, Oranges, Incense, Berries, Flowers, Spices, Chocolate. That’s an easy one for me – Flowers. Click!

Section III of quiz:

Favorite Drink? Wine, water, coffee, cocktail, smoothie, whiskey, herbal tea, chocolate shake. Ok, so this one I can get rid of 2 immediately. Smoothie and Chocolate shake are out.

Herbal Tea. Ummm, drink it…but don’t choose it. Out.

Coffee. Have to have it, every morning. Buuut, I think hard about that and come to the conclusion that I love the routine of it…it’s not that it’s my favorite drink.

Cocktail. There is nothing like a good cocktail. I really do enjoy fru fru cocktails. It’s a perk of being a girl, I can order them and not look lame. But is it my favorite drink?

Whiskey. I do love whiskey, but not necessarily Whiskey just on its own. I mix it with something. That makes it a cocktail…right? Whiskey, I love ya buddy! But I’m grouping you into the cocktail category.

Is it weird that I somehow felt as though I was insulting whiskey?

Water. I drink tons of water. And I’m 100% sure I have even said out loud after guzzling cold ice cold water “God I love water”.

Wine. I really love wine. I appreciate wine. I respect wine. Wine is my friend. Wine is that one beverage that can adapt and fit in any occasion. It can be casual or formal, snobbish or chill, silly or boring, you get the picture.

Ok, I going with wine! CLICK

Section IV of quiz:

I have to enter the names of 3 perfume I’ve like. Hmm, do Bath & Body Works body sprays count? The pressure! Seriously, I felt pressure. Alright – I can do this.

First one…easy because I just bought the full bottle recently. Done

Then it happens – blank…total blank space. Scentbird…throw me a bone, I thought the whole point of this was you telling me what I would like. This is me telling you what I like.

I pull it together and add two more perfumes that I have liked. (drawer full of Sephora perfume samples to the rescue)

SUBMIT! The Scentbird “tru scent” magic is happening before my eyes. It’s analyzing thousands of fragrances all matched just for me! Eeek, shit just got real!

As had been pictured in my head, there were no explosions of shiny confetti when my recommendations appeared. But, there were 12 fragrances new fragrances for me to try.

So here is the weird part, I ended up navigating back to Scentbird’s fragrance of the month. I picked that one; Maiaday by Raymond matts.

It actually sounded lovely, with all its notes of velvety florals and wafting petals. (Seriously fragrance marketers?)Plus, I wanted to be surprised and break out of what is typical for me.

I haven’t received it yet, but I keep thinking about it and have checked several times to see if it’s shipped yet. I’m actually most excited for this subscription box to arrive, above all the others. I think I’m secretly hoping that it will have some sort of image refresh effect for me.

Super Excited…I’ll let you know…stay tuned.

About The Author

mm

Welcome, Subscription Box Society readers, thanks for stopping by. I'm Erin and here's a bit about me, in the 3rd person, naturally. Erin's a wife & mom of 3, a girl and twin boys. She spent most her life in San Francisco Bay Area but now lives in Colorado. She loves the first snow of the season, but not as much as the last one. She loves decorating her home for each season, loves good food, scratch that – ALL food, and reality TV. She despises putting away the laundry, being in the car when her husband is driving, and hearing her own voice. But really the only noteworthy detail here is her fascination with the brilliance behind subscription boxes. Welcome to the Society!
