The The Zoe Report Box of Style review for Spring 2017 came with a lot of anticipation and there were definite expectations.
Let me be totally transparent with you, I felt pressure to provide my opinions and assessment of this box, unlike I have before. For whatever reason, there was concern about offending people, anyone.
In the interest of total transparency, let’s just be real – there’s the whole Rachel ZOE thing going on with this box, and that’s a little intimidating. I mean really? She’s kinda a style icon and therefore a force to be reckoned with. The last thing I need is her in hating on me.
Also, I had people (I have people) contacting me before I had opened the box asking me if would I be reviewing it, had I received it, and what did I think of it.
Fortunately, I hadn’t opened my Box of Style yet, so I didn’t know what was in the box, making it easy to say “yep, I have it and yep will review it, but no opinions yet”. It quickly became apparent that I need to disconnect from these feelings of expectation as to not allow for them to affect my opinions. Dang RZ…you’ve certainly got a crew behind you, that’s for sure. Oh and FYI – they reeeelly want you back on the tele!
My process had to be to remove myself mentally from any of these details that were making me feel apprehensive about MY honest opinion – (insert a little mediation technique here).
I decided the best approach would be to figure out what “how do I define Style”? And interestingly enough I realized I didn’t know how to put it into words. I just use the word Style as an adjective for a feeling.
You see style is found in things, people, places. For me is the feeling I get as a direct response to such places, people, or things.
For example, I can be talking to someone who has dyed their hair a magnificent pastel blue and it makes me feel something. That makes it style, right? That doesn’t mean I would dye my hair blue – because it’s not my style. But nonetheless that doesn’t mean it isn’t style.
Make Sense?
I quickly realized that the pressure pre unboxing was because I associate The Box of Style with undeniable style traits. Soooo, if I didn’t l-o-v-e some or all of the items, did it mean I didn’t have Style?
“I have style!”
“I’m pretty sure I have style.”
“I think I have style…”
“Wait, do I have style?”
Turns out I was afraid that this Box of Style was going to indicate my style worthiness.
Much to my delight, The Box of Style was way ahead of me. Apparently I was a little late to the Style Train. Turns out they had this little jewel of style know already covered.
(And this would be why I am not a Style Guru and should leave it to the pros.)
Al righty then, pulled my stylish big girl panties up…and unboxed!
The main premise (for me anyway) is these are items that are staples you build your style around. Items that are perfectly adaptable and versatile for you to work into your already existing style.
It doesn’t mean you have to have an existing specific style in order to work these items into your lifestyle.
I have since dubbed it – Zoe Your Style. Because that’s the message, don’t change your style; incorporate these products to enhance your style. Express our own unique styles every day.
The message behind the Spring 2017 Box of Style is focused around Women and Women’s issues. Each item selected was strategically chosen from companies that represent female founded brands. Holla!!!
The Goods:
The Totally Adornable Ivo earrings by Ardormonde. This is an adorable pair of earrings. Whoa, hold up there style friend…that’s not ONE pair; it’s TWO! These little ear art pieces by Niki Allworth can be worn with a hoop, or just as the bar.
I assumed I would only wear it as the hoop. Ahhh, not so young grasshopper! I actually like the bar all on its own. Who knew I was so edgy!
The Weekend Warrior custom carryall bag by Tribe Alive. Its versatility makes it a bag that can be used for a lazy day at the beach, or your essential tote for strolling local art festivals. You really can’t go wrong. These bags are all handmade by women living in poverty who are true artisans. Tribe Alive works to employ women living in poverty throughout Indian cities.
The Tied and True scarf by Symbology. This scarf is magnificent, not only because of the beautiful detail and rich colors, but because Symbology is a noteworthy company partnering with women in India who hand create these pieces. I highly recommend you check out their site, it’s fascinating.
When you wear this scarf you can’t help but be reminded of women who have put their heart and soul into our accessory pieces. It’s a celebration and symbol of women supporting women.
Butter London Nail Polish in the color Piece of Cake. LOVE Butter London nail polish. Did you know that this was the first healthy nail polish brand? No, me neither; I just loved the polish. The Zoe report even shared a little style tip nugget of information on how to make the color really pop…for those of us who don’t have a skin tone that neutral polish wears well on. Lovely!
The Haute Hydrator Water Bottle. This is a water bottle unlike any water bottle I have ever run across. And let me be very clear…my kids are water bottle hoarders so I have had my fair shake down in the water bottle glass menagerie.
Interesting thing about this water bottle; it’s made of glass (cause that reduces waste) yet it’s doesn’t feel glassy. It feels incredibly durable. I don’t quite know how to explain it other than a glass phenomenon.
However, my favorite part of it; it has the most ergonomic fit in your hand. And that magic is all in the tiny cap! The main reason I don’t carry water bottle with me is because they feel awkward in my hand…not the Haute Hydrator!
Tatcha’s Polished Skin Rice Enzyme I love this product and polished is truly the perfect descriptive. The origin behind Tatcha product lines – less is more. The founder Victoria Tsai took her inspiration from Geisha beauty rituals. Now I can’t say I understand the Geisha approach, but I am fully tapped into their freaking awesome skin!!!
The Stella Artois Chalice (or as we lovingly call them in my household; a glass). The Sponsored bonus (if you’re over 21). Let me tell you the last thing we need in our home is another adult beverage holder. BUT – this one will earn its place in the family. For each Chalice (ahem glass), Stella Artois has partnered with water.org to provide 5 YEARS of clean water for 1 person without access to clean water in developing countries.
And there you have it Society!!! The Spring 2017 Box of Style from The Zoe Report. It’s is overflowing with items that are all about the empowerment and celebration of women around the World. Women who help us rock our own style.
I feel like I’ve come out on the other end of this unboxing knowing a little something more about myself and other women around the World.
Is it even possible that a subscription box can make me feel as if I’ve somehow grown a little as a person? Because it totally did. The Spring 2017 The Zoe Report Box of Style is a subscription box with meaning that extends outside of my own reality.
ZOE your style my friends!
