As I mentioned in my Smile Direct Club Review post, Smile Direct Club obviously isn’t a standard subscription box that we review here at Subscription Box Society, but after years of not wearing my retainer, my bottom teeth decided to do their own thing and the result hasn’t been to my liking. When I had the opportunity to review their invisable aligner home service, I jumped on the chance.
Smile Direct Club Impression Kit Review + $100 OFF
To get started with Smile Direct Club, you have two choices: book a scan at one of Smile Direct Club’s SmileShops or order the impression kit. There was actually a SmileShop in my town but I decided to go the route of ordering the home impression kit.
The kit showed up pretty quick after I order it. It was in my mailbox within 2-3 days.
As a heads up, when you order your Smile Direct Club Impression Kit, make sure that you will have some time to actually make your impressions in the week or so following. My kit had a “Please return your completed impressions by” date on the outside of the box.
These guys sent a nicely designed box. Inside they include a 25 page guide on your kit with detailed instructions on how to make the best impressions. The guide was super helpful and provided photos and illustrations that were incredibly helpful during the process.
The kit also has an information card on the types of aligners available (Clear Aligners or their new Nighttime Clear Aligners) and a thorough description of your options for payments:
Single Pay | $1895
Easy one-time payment
Custom clear aligners shipped to you
Premium teeth whitening included
SmilePay™ | $85/mo.
Convenient monthly payments
No credit check and no forms to fill out
$250 deposit, $85/mo. for 24 months ($2290 total)
Custom clear aligners shipped to you
Premium teeth whitening included
Now that we have perused the written material, let’s to the meat of the box and how it works. There are two layers of two impressions trays per level and two sets of purple and gray putty per level.
After ensuring that the impression trays fit in your mouth correctly and you have suited up with the included gloves, with your timer at the ready, you can start mixing the purple and gray puttys together. You have 90 seconds to fold the putty together before it starts to set so make sure you are ready to go once you mix the puttys together.
Once you have finished mixing the puttys together, you roll it and put it in the impression tray and then press the tray into your mouth pressing it into your teeth. You will make four total impressions, two for your top teeth and two for your bottom teeth.
I think mine turned out pretty good according to the descriptions in the guide. My teeth don’t look very out of sorts in the impressions though so it will be interesting to get the results from the orthodontist from the 3D model created from the impressions.
The final step is to use the Smile Stretcher included in the kit to take pictures of how your teeth currently look to be uploaded into your Smile Direct Club online account. This thing looks like a mid evil torture device and definitely will give your family a good laugh on your behalf if they happen to be in the vicinity.
Once done, simply pop the trays back in the box with the impressions and secure it with the included smile sticker. It comes with a shipping label pre-stuck on the box so all you need to do is pop it back in the mailbox.
All in all, the Impression Kit was nicely packaged, the quality of the items in the box was very good and the process was easy to complete. I look forward to getting the results back but for anyone concerned about having to create their own impressions, I would happily recommend this kit as it was easy as pie!
