Odd Sox Official had me questioning my hipster vibe. Did I have hipster vibes?
I really had no idea what to expect from this subscription. I mean – I like socks, I wear socks, my kids wear socks. Socks are essential, aren’t they?
However, my socks are usually a basic article of needed clothing rather than a statement…for me anyway. With that being said…I’m probably not the best-chosen authority regarding current sock trends.
My children, on the other hand, do wear the occasional statement socks. So I thought this could be a great solution to finding original and unique socks for them.
I was super curious to see how I would feel about the Odd Sox Official and its socks. Would Odd Sox Official pump up my current swagger; I have swagger! Is swagger still a thing?
In the spirit of trying to be as fashion forward as possible, I did some social media stalking into what the current sock trends are. It seems as though socks maintain their allure to a certain crowd. I’m not sure I would be considered that crowd, but there’s definitely a crowd.
The premise and foundation behind Odd Sox Official, “Stand Out, Be Odd”. So right there I pretty much knew I was probably not their target consumer.
I’m very ordinary (some might say basic). I don’t stand out and I’m not really what would be considered odd. I think it’s safe to assume as well others would feel that same way about me. So could I pull off and find a fondness for odd socks?
Let the journey begin! The actual “box” is really quite cool. I was impressed from the start with the way the socks are presented. It’s catchy, colorful, and attention grabbing. A+ for their packaging and presentation.
And then I pulled the socks out and I was genuinely in awe of how colorful and vivid the actual socks were. You can actually see my reaction in my unboxing video.
The first pair out of the box – Nickelodeon’s Hey Arnold.
The second pair were Now and Later candy theme.
Of the two, my favorite, Now and Later. That’s probably because I knew what Now and Later candy is. Obviously, a connection I can relate to.
I’m not actually sure what Hey Arnold is. Ugh –I know I know! I’ll be relinquishing my hipster badge today.
At first glance, I couldn’t quite tell what size they were for -a child or adult. The sizing said for sizes 6-13. But I was wondering is that age or shoe size?
I tried to look on the site for more detailed information about sizing and it wasn’t easy for me to locate the information. As I played around with the socks a bit, I came to the conclusion it had to be a pair for kids.
This was solely based on when I pulled the sock up over my arm the design/pattern lost a bit of its vividness. Which could only mean my arm must have been too large, and if my arm was too big my calf certainly would be too big.
At first touch of these socks, whoa – they are so amazingly soft! It felt as though these were ribbons. I really wanted to get them on my feet, but I feared since I’d concluded these were for a child’s size I would probably ruin them pulling them over my feet and calves that suddenly appeared gigantic.
The socks have these patch oval shapes in black. I honestly didn’t know if they were supposed to be on your knee or your heel. I up to this point don’t own socks with that adornment, I truly wasn’t sure the point of the oval patch.
Fortunately, once my kids got past their need to make me feel like an idiot, explained to me the area goes at the back of your ankle. Good to know!
But then I remembered the oddsoxofficial.com sock models had the oval on the heel. Take your snarky eye rolls elsewhere, punks! Hipster vibe regaining momentum.
Later that evening I decided to have my 11-year-old try a pair on. It was a little hard to get them on. Then again that could have been because he is 11 and had been in shoes all day so his feet were a little muggy and uhhhh damp. (Dry heaving with you).
Anyway, once they were on him I found myself in a total fit of laughter over how they fit him. OMG, it was hilarious. He looked like a messed-up duck. He was not quite as amused as I. He’d kill me if he knew I posted this.
Eureka! They are not for kid sizes. So I tried them on myself.
They actually fit quite well and very very comfortable. I was impressed with how they felt. I could totally wear these socks comfortably and represent as an Odd Sox crony.
My only complaint (and it wasn’t really even a complaint) was that the graphic lost so much of its pizazz as it stretched over my calf. That bummed me out.
Of course, I checked out their gallery of photos on some social media platforms and it doesn’t appear to be that way on the sock models out there.
There are two possible postulates to this…
I pull my socks up wrong
or
sock models have dangerously thin calves
So in summary – The Odd Sox Official subscription box is tons of fun. Their shop is full of fantastic themes and bursting with options to suit many genres, ages, and interests. The socks offered in this subscription can offer the proverbial sock enthusiast an endless array of sock delight.
And I’ll let you in on a little secret…I was throwing out some serious edge when I had my socks on. They made me a little badass!
I think I’m going to give statement socks a shot. I’m on the pursuit to create a whole new audience for the odd sock. The mission – create a tribe of fellow ordinary people who embrace ODD SOX.
Sock On Society!
