Five Four Club’s April 2017 has hit the streets party people.
April 2017’s theme is Desert Oasis. Now I’m not actually sure what a Desert Oasis has to do with clothing??? I guess it doesn’t really matter if it sounds as cool as this does. But I’m just perplexed as to how a desert region that has water and therefore vegetation is related to a fashion line. Oh well, I never did mind much about the little things. (can you name the movie I stole that from?)
Five Four Club’s Style page more or less describe the collection as transition pieces that will get you through Spring and the events that accompany it. That sounds promising.
The first item for us to check out is a pair of Lake CML OST – Straight Fit Pant in the color Camel. Or as I commonly refer to them; khakis.
These are 100% cotton type twill. Do you know what that means, cause I really don’t? I mean, I know what 100% cotton is, but I’m not sure what or how that translates to twill. However, it is noted that these are “wash and wear” and require “little to no ironing”.
But let’s be honest, a little ironing is ironing; p-e-r-i-o-d end of discussion!
The other noted piece of info on the label is that the pants are “fast color & sanforized”. Which basically are “bougie“ descriptives for – “pre-shrunk and fade-resistant”. I think these pants look great. They have a very heavy feel to them, not heavy like you’d be hot in the desert oasis; more like they won’t rip when you trip over the cactus.
The next article of menswear clothing in our April Box is the Berkshire HCH Henleys in the color Heather Charcoal. That’s code for…darker gray long sleeve raglan t-shirt. The sleeves are medium blue that pair really well with the gray color. I have to say I REEEELLLYYYY love the shirt.
It’s 60% cotton and 40% polyester. And for those of you have been around the society lately, you know polyester is my most recent fabric crush. You know, I’m not even sure why I had looked down my nose at polyester all these years? Probably based on some hoity-toity marketing nonsense years back. Anywhoo, I was totally wrong, and if you dislike polyester can you let me know why? What am I missing? If I’m not mistaken jersey cotton was considered cheap until Coco Chanel touted its fabulousness!

Anyway, focus…the raglan; I do love it. It’s super soft, it’s got a great vibe to it. There are minor details that really take the shirt to another level. The stitch on the sleeve and the 3 buttons at the collar are noted, but effortless. They add the perfect amount of uniqueness to the shirt where it’s not too much to be distracting, but without wouldn’t be unique at all. This shirt tells me the guy wearing it cares how he looks but is a relaxed chill dude.
And the light texture will allow for one to stay cool yet the long sleeves will protect skin from the harsh desert sun.
And finally, I’ve saved the best for last. The absolutely fantastic Rossmoor Red Socks. I freaking am dying over these crew socks. Who knew I’d be the type to find mystique and intrigue through a pair of socks on a man.
I don’t know what it is but these socks, but man oh man do they peak interest! I honestly think if I were somewhere and a random guy had on a plain pair of khakis (oops I mean Lake CML OST – Straight Fit Pants in the color Camel) with a plain shirt, and then these socks we’re peeking through from the top of his shoe, I would so want him to be my friend. He’s that guy who is not a total waste of space because he contributes zero intellect, but he’s funny as shit.
And the red would most likely frighten the desert spiders and scorpions away…that’s always a plus.
Now – let’s pull it all together here and try to figure out if this is worth the $60.00 subscription cost. Since these are Five Four brand, it’s hard to say what they would retail at. But we can do some comparables on pricing. I decided based on my experiences purchasing men’s clothes to use Eddie Bauer for comparable items.
The shirt we’ll average at $28.00, it’s a good midpoint for the price points. The pants I think are accurately averaged at a price of $45.00. And the red crew socks, let’s say $7.50. All together that looking at over $80.00 retail. Of course, this isn’t an exact science since I can’t compare directly to these items through a retail store, but I think we’re pretty darn close.
Verdict: TOTAL APPROVAL FROM ME on 2017 Desert Oasis Box by Five Four Club.
My opinion is the Five Four April box would style our society’s younger generation men effortlessly with his everyday wear to school or to hang with buddies, as well as appropriately clothe our more mature guys who hang over the weekend watching a game at the local brewery while throwing back a few pints.
