With fall arriving any minute, I decided to unpause my Five Four Club subscription and set my husband up with some fancy new duds for the cooler weather. He is decidedly an “non-shopper” so at least if I get clothes delivered to the house and force him to try them on, he may actually accept something new every so often.
I have seen the same t-shirts for so long they feel like family. If you get to know me, and if I like you, I tend to nickname you with a name that just comes to the tip of the my tongue. So t-shirts holey-Harley and outta-shape-Oakley may be getting the heave-ho if I can get a few more Five Four Club replacements quickly.
This months Five Four Club items were honestly a little iffy from both of us upon unboxing. I think my husband’s comments were along the lines of “Uh yeah, those aren’t my style”. My immediate thoughts were “t-shirts aren’t really a style hun”. Whoops – there are my Baltimore roots coming out with the “hun”.
Anyway, being the pushy wife that I am, I made him try the items on anyway. Lo and behold, he came down the stairs and said, “I actually really like these jeans. They are softer than regular jeans. I will totally wear these. I think I really like Five Four pants because I like the other pair I got also.” Say what?!?
So let’s dive in to the review. It’ll be quick because we only received two items this month.
Five Four Club Review September 2017
Five Four Club Josh Chambray Shirt
First up the Five Four Club Josh shirt. This shirt is a long sleeve, button up chambray blue shirt. Honestly when I first saw it, I didn’t think it was anything special but once he put it on, I thought it actually looked really nice on him.
My husband thought it was a bit scratchy to wear, but this is the same guy that never wears anything before it has been washed. Is that normal? Do other people do that? I don’t know why I find that a strange habit of his.
Five Four Club Briggs Straight Denim Jeans
The other item we received this month from Five Four Club was a pair of Five Four Club Briggs Straight denim jeans in navy.
The tag says these are “Raw Denim” that evolve each and every time you wear them. They are a premium denim that tells the story of your life: how you move, sit, lean and live. Huh. Do different people lean differently? Maybe it is time for a social project to determine the validity of that? Regardless, my husband thinks they are really comfortable and coming from a man who wore two pairs of socks with his shoes everyday for about four years when we first met because it was “more comfortable”, that says a lot that he says these jeans are comfortable.
The Five Four Club Try On
Annnnnd… here is the final result. Ignore the wrinkles because I took this picture after taking pictures of him sitting in a chair. Clearly a professional move there. I think he looks great. Polished and put together but also nicely casual and – bonus! – no t-shirt in sight. All in all, after the initial negative reaction, I’m pretty impressed with Five Four Club this month. Better yet – my husband gives it two thumbs up as well.
This month’s subscription to Five Four Club was $60. A good pair of men’s jeans are $50-100 alone. With the two pieces and the free styling service, the $60 spent at Five Four Club is definitely a good value.
