ThreadLab Subscription Box Review - March 2017

There is some serious chemistry going on in the ThreadLab!!! Hot Damn…Me Likey.

ThreadLab is a menswear box, so this one was ordered by me on behalf of the husb-man. I received my, (I mean his) first curated subscription box this week.

I absolutely had no idea what to expect. I was a little concerned mainly because I knew if it was a disappointment, that Husb-man would act all let down and say passive aggressive quips like “it’s ok, how would you have known?” or “well that’s alright, you tried”. Because he’s soooo fashion forward. Ugh and Barf!

3 items for us to break down, Society Members!!!

First – Golf Shirt! This is a navy blue, short sleeve Link Soul golf shirt, and is perfect for many occasions.

Momentary Digression – This happens to be considered an actual golf shirt. I know this because, I happen to be familiar with the brand Link Soul, who cater to a golf tribe.

However, as I think about it I’m not sure there is an actual shirt that is strictly for golf. So, I always hesitate a bit when using the word “golf” as a descriptive for clothing.

Here’s my problem with clothes that get dubbed “golf” in their description.

Golf, the game, became regarded as an upper echelon activity that suddenly had a “style” associated with it, and please make no mistake I for one love the attire associated with golf.

I think it’s clean, crisp, and classic. However, I personally find the sport one of the most boring activities EVER.

Now before all the golf crusaders start hating on me, let me qualify my statement. I have many golfers in my life, and you my golfer friends are a crowd I’m proud to stalk. There is something that puts golfers into a league of their own; an untouchable league.

But, here’s the struggle part – all golfers I know, want to be able to say they play golf, where they play it, and with whom they’ve played it.

I haven’t strayed from topic, promise…I’m bringing this all back around to the ThreadLab “golf shirt”.

The shirt is a sophisticated piece of men’s clothing that I would say conveys style and class. The wearer will certainly be able to pull off the “golfer look” seamlessly. And it’s a good look.

Pretty much any classic shirt with a touch of uniqueness, that can be dressed up or down becomes a “golf shirt”. Am I right?

Either way, when all is said and done, the Golf Shirt sent by Threadlab was spot on. I love it and all its preconceived pretentiousness.

Thank goodness for the game of golf, otherwise all short sleeved, collared, classically refined shirts would be called well…a shirt.

Next out of the box…the long sleeve knit waffle shirt. I’d call the color oatmeal. I realize this isn’t real color…but oatmeal does have a color…and it’s the color of oatmeal.

This shirt to me was the kind of shirt a ruggedly sexy man would wear. The man who works in a high-rise fancy schmancy office building during the week, and restores his vintage mustang car on the weekend, in the Hamptons.

The shirt has a nice waffle pattern to it which gives it that little “I’m cooler than your average long sleeve knit shirt, but not to cool to flaunt it”. I like that in a shirt.

Men should never be obviously cool, well in my unsolicited opinion anyway!

And finally the jeans. These are Calvin Klein jeans. Pretty standard typical men’s jeans. When I was filling out the profile on the Threadlab site I’d indicated either a relaxed or straight preference for pants.

I’ll be honest I’m not sure what fit these jeans are, but they look good on Husb-man; which assures us that they aren’t skinny fit. (he’s not so much the skinny fit type of guy)

And I overheard Husb-man say to our daughter “these are fashionable jeans”; in a very self-promoting, cool jean wearing, I’m not your 50-year-old dork dad; kind of way. Bless his heart.

In summary, if after reading my preceding thoughts on Threadlab’s monthly subscription box you’re unsure of my opinion let me just make this simple.

I am totally digging the clothing they sent!!! At times my personality can be a wee bit controlling. Or a smidge obvious toward my husb-man through my facial expressions silently scream, “why yes, what you are wearing will certainly reflect as one of my choices”.

I can assure you that will not occur. I approve of these choices; entirely! And it’s a good value too. Threadlab has different subscription plans so you can choose your price point.

Even so, I estimate these three items –

A Link Soul golf shirt typically retails starting (I repeat, starting) at about $80.00.

Men’s Calvin Klein Jeans undoubtedly you won’t find for less than $30.00 in a retail store (and that’s if you’re spending time doing some comparison shopping and searching & yo – time is money).

I can’t say that I was familiar with the brand PX (knit long sleeve shirt). But I can tell you that the shirt is cut well and feels like a quality fabric. So, although I can’t vouch for the brand, but can tell you I would have paid a decent price for the shirt in a store.

Right then Society members…ThreadLab starter box is only $99.00 and that’s for 2-4 items. Not only did I, (damn, I mean him), just get 3 very nice clothing items DEFINITELY below retail price, one of them was a pair of jeans. For whatever reason I think it’s rare for men’s subscription to boxes include pants. (maybe that’s just my own preconceived judgy hang up though).

And…I love me a menswear subscription box that is curated for the critical wife in mind! Muwahh Threadlab!
