Scentbird March 2017 Fragrance - Maiaday by Raymond Matts

Scentbird March 2017 Fragrance – Maiaday by Raymond Matts

The perfume of the month for March 2017 –Maiaday by Raymond Matts. I hadn’t heard of this perfume previously, so I was very excited to get it. I thought I was pretty familiar with if nothing else the mere existence of most perfumes out there, but apparently not. So I certainly had some anticipation.

I happen to be one of those people who is largely affected by my sense of smell. I’m pretty big on scent. I attach a scent to almost everything in my memory bank.

Just the scent of Polo by Ralph Lauren brings me back to my high school years. Let me tell you, if a guy smelled of Polo I instantly thought he was so cool. And the attraction was real; as real as written in the stars everlasting l-o-v-e, attraction at the age of 14.

Nevertheless, this correlation of Polo = Hot Guy quickly disappeared when my grandpa starting updating his cologne collection.

The Scentbird March subscription arrived in a black bubble wrap packet with a pink round Scentbird sticker. I can’t say there was anything very special to it, but certainly better than some things I’ve had delivered.

Inside was a little black velvety type drawstring bag adorned with Scentbird New York printed in white. And inside the soft little carry bag was the perfume of the month.

The container is a shiny and sleek round cylinder.

The spray nozzle twists up revealing a shiny silvery signature Scentbird bird.

My husband and I had plans on Saturday with a group of friends to meet up at a local Biergarten. I decided to wear MY new perfume to test out the reactions.

Of course I was fully anticipating people mesmerized by this scent of a WOMANhoooo Ahhhhh!

I envisioned walking by people and as my fragrance lingered others would be searching through the crowds of people to find out who was emanating that intoxicating intriguing scent.

Instead I found myself immediately placing my wrist below friend’s noses and asking “do I smell good?”

Over the course of the evening I continued to solicit opinions. All the responses were positive. There was one that actually offered a bit more than just the typical “yea I like it”. The comment – “it’s definitely more of an evening fragrance”. I wasn’t sure what exactly that meant, but by that time we all had a couple beers running through our blood stream so the comment didn’t necessarily count.

The amount of actual perfume received in a Scentbird subscription is .27 fl oz. Being I had no idea how much that would look like, I was impressed with the amount of perfume it actually was. It’s A LOT of perfume!

Here’s the fantastic part – I went and checked out retail price of Maiaday, which sells in 1.7 fl oz bottles and it’s $200 buckaroos. I no math genius but I was feeling pretty confident that was sounding like I’d scored a bargain!

To ensure the integrity of my data I just texted my accountant financial wizard friend, and that’s freakin $31.75 per .27 fl oz. Hot Damn! With Scentbird I only spent $14.95 for .27 fl oz. If ‘hashtag winning’ were still cool…I’d totally be #winning.

I really love this concept of a fragrance subscription. I heart that you can test out fragrances at such a great cost. I heart that you can switch up your luxury fragrances so that you don’t become immune to the scent and risk offending those around you with a sense of smell. I love that it’s a perfect travel companion complying with all TSA guidelines. I heart that the container is reusable AND comes in different colors.

Here is my buyer be aware (I DID NOT say beware). I’m noticing some possible kinks in the subscription processing of terms.

It’s fantastic that Scentbird offers flexibility and options with their subscriptions. Options such as customization of monthly plans or the option to skip months, etc.

But, I’m finding myself a little confused with when to expect the next charge and shipment. I thought I had signed up for a bi-monthly subscription.  But, when I log into my profile I think I accidentally skipped a month too. I joined the subscription on 2/17. My subscription status shows currently as ‘on hold until May 04’.

I can’t find where to view the details of my subscription plan (monthly or bi monthly). I’d like to see on the site the subscription account activity that has taken place.

And I can’t figure out how to reactivate my subscription out of on “hold” status. The issue – what if I changed my mind and wanted to have start up again before May, Can I? (Pssst, little bird you may want to make that option more obvious)

Get what I’m saying?

So although I think it’s awesome they offer flexibility, I’m not sure that they’re quite set-up to manage those customized subscriptions seamlessly. Or who knows, its quite possible, I’m not set up to understand how to manage my ONE subscription. Nonetheless, I just don’t have the time in my day to sift through the site FAQ’s to figure it out. The flip side would be a charge I wasn’t planning, and it my opinion that is NOT the lesser of two evils. A plus!

Please share your comments if you have any experiences to with Scentbird subscription. I’d love to know if I am missing the obvious here.

My summary wrap up for Scentbird is it’s an awesome deal and so worth it. The bottle and container are elegant and convenient. It’s a fabulous concept and can really help build and perfect your personal fragrance collection. But you really have to pay attention to what you want your subscription terms to look like when signing up, because if you want to make a change, managing your subscription isn’t such a self-explanatory, simple to navigate process.

About The Author

Welcome, Subscription Box Society readers, thanks for stopping by. I'm Erin and here's a bit about me, in the 3rd person, naturally. Erin's a wife & mom of 3, a girl and twin boys. She spent most her life in San Francisco Bay Area but now lives in Colorado. She loves the first snow of the season, but not as much as the last one. She loves decorating her home for each season, loves good food, scratch that – ALL food, and reality TV. She despises putting away the laundry, being in the car when her husband is driving, and hearing her own voice. But really the only noteworthy detail here is her fascination with the brilliance behind subscription boxes. Welcome to the Society!
