Yes, I believe that is a small tear streaming down my cheek. I write this review with the slightest tinge of sadness behind it.

Ellie is my tribe, my crew, my mob! They’ve maintained “if they sent it; it’s all the rage” active wear subscription status, in my book. And as hard as I tried to be staunch and steadfast in that certainty I conceded that they missed it for me in May, a little.

I have been so so so impressed with Ellie each month and May’s outfit just didn’t work for me, or my body type at least. Wahhhhh!

First up the Ellie Activewear Subscription box for May – leggings by Balance Collection.

Balance Collection Capri Leggings

These Capri leggings combine a soft material from the waist down to the bottom of your thigh. It’s super soft and luxurious.

But then it’s connected to a black mesh panel portion. Which actually is very discreet as far as it being translucent or anything. It’s just a different fabric, therefore a different squish resistance.

But then that mesh meets up with a patterned fabric that is purple, pink, white & black.

Where the fabrics meet

I kept finding myself thinking that I if I had these in the 80’s, I’m certain Dee Snider from twisted sister totally would have wanted to borrow them.

Don’t get me wrong, I am fully aware that my style is certainly not the only style out there. Please know I wouldn’t ever in these leggings and think – “oh lawd, were there no mirrors?”

Unfortunately, the response may be warranted if I were wearing them.

These were just not flattering AT ALL for my body type. The super soft fabric feels great, but it lacked suck it in properties. And where it went really wrong; where it met with the mesh and patterned “suck it in” material. I looked bumpy because of the different levels of suck it in.

My thighs and butt were certainly more floppy flowing yet my knees and calves were not. Call me crazy, but the suck it in portions needed to be reversed. And not to add insult to injury the waist was weirdly high and the crotch weirdly low.

The tank and the sports bra, both by Marika.

The Sports Bra!

This wasn’t restricting AT ALL.  But, it was a little revealing for my liking. I just don’t show that much of my “boobays”, it’s just not me. And I don’t manipulate their structure and placement.I’m not that girl who always wanted boobs. I liked being a modest B and this bra certainly made me feel like I was an ostentatious C. I’ll just keep those girlies where they feel right on me, which isn’t up high or nestled together creating all sort of little sweat puddles.

Finally, the Tank in Ellie’s May box!

Marika Tank

At first glance it had me feeling enthusiastic. But then I put it on, duh du duhhhhh, this just didn’t fit my body type well. I totally have fluffy areas that house some squish. This tank just seemed to hug all those places. It accentuated what I know exists, but can usually strategically ignore.

However, don’t miss the white center stripe detail on the back of this tank is fabulous. I can never get enough of these details that take a shirt from “cute” to “hell ya”!

My current mood – BUMMED BUMMED BUMMED!

If I had a lean or athletic build, I would totally be able to confidently rock this outfit. If only I were a petite girl.

Don’t fret Societors…redemption was just around the corner.

Did you know there’s such-a-thing as hand therapy balls.? I didn’t, so this was crazy cool to be introduced to.

Ellie’s May box included a set of three Therapy Balls from Balance Collection.

Balance Collection Hand Therapy Balls

These are WAY cool. They each have a different resistance level and color. It’s trippy too because once it’s in your hand you immediately are compelled to squeezing them. It’s a very visceral reaction.

These will get lots of use in my house and I’m hoping they will alleviate a bit of the arthritis pain I have in my hands.

Pleased, quite pleased indeed.

Finally the Marika Arm Wallet.

Marika Arm Wallet

But first a little backstory – I don’t like taking my phone when I’m out walking; quite frankly it’s a nuisance. However, music is a necessity to this activity.

This means a couple pain points as it relates to establishing a walking routine.

Pain Point 1 –  My kids can’t get ahold of me during that time. I prefer to take that as a sign that they weren’t meant to, but I often receive “judgy“ eyes; as if I weren’t taking this whole parenting gig as my responsibility.

So I limit my walking times to when they aren’t in the care of another.

Pain Point 2 –  if I ever run into any wild jungle creatures who plan to kill me (it could happen), once I flee to safety up a tree finding myself in official in squatter position, how can I contact anyone for rescue? I just have to wait for someone to locate me by smoke signal.

Thanks to Ellie it’s quite possible I will be walking this summer with an arm wallet holding my phone.

Until of course, my kids realize they can call me and then it’s just irritating for a whole nothaaa reason.

My fellow Ellie fans, this May box has left me feeling blasé. But that’s only because of the outfit (ahem, maybe I should rephrase that); it’s only because of my body type.

But since I like to ignore disappointment in my life, I choose the mantra things happen for a reason. Society –  that is what I’m choosing to do. It’s a mere blip in the massive scale of the Ellie success empire!

It’s my belief I’d simply been spoiled with too many fabulous Ellie activewear outfits. It was time to chillax a bit. The other outfits needed to feel my gratitude for them in my life.

Really, how can one ever truly appreciate greatness if it’s all they’re accustomed to. We shall ponder.

Ellie remains my tribe, my crew, my mob!

About The Author

mm

Welcome, Subscription Box Society readers, thanks for stopping by. I'm Erin and here's a bit about me, in the 3rd person, naturally. Erin's a wife & mom of 3, a girl and twin boys. She spent most her life in San Francisco Bay Area but now lives in Colorado. She loves the first snow of the season, but not as much as the last one. She loves decorating her home for each season, loves good food, scratch that – ALL food, and reality TV. She despises putting away the laundry, being in the car when her husband is driving, and hearing her own voice. But really the only noteworthy detail here is her fascination with the brilliance behind subscription boxes. Welcome to the Society!
